    So how many had the opportunity to observe the logos on signs in the business section?
    My friend and I were for what seemed like the first time enjoying the logos on 14th street here in Ponca.

    There was a great letter e in small case with a swirl running through it on the Econo Lodge
    Motel. Across the street was the letter V with a whip like line running through it for the Valero
    filling station. The word super and then the large number 8 was the logo for the Super 8 Motel.
    And so begins our journey to train and hone our observation skills. These are the skills to make the doctor, lawyer and Indian Chief, or a lieutenant like John Dunbar in Dances With Wolves played by Kevin Costner.

    This is when we begin to learn what negative space is and how to use it.

    Definition: Negative space is the area of an image not occupied by shapes or forms. Negative space drawing involves concentrating on drawing the background, leaving the object white - an excellent exercise in observation.

    I went through a lot of sites before I finally found this one to be the best for explaining what negative space is:
