“Life is like a beautiful painting. There is the light the artist captures, but in
order for the light to be seen, there must be shadows.”
Over the years I’ve often thought of his words as I look at a beautiful painting.
Indeed, there are the light areas right up against the shadows. These is what one
must show the student right from the start.
The little forms you have created with your children out of play dough have by
now become hard and easily handled. These objects, the cone, cube, cylinder,
and sphere you will set up on the table. Next to them a small goose neck lamp
is what you will use to put intense light on the objects. If there is too much over
head lighting turn that off so the shadows will show up.

There is a series here showing how to shade the various shapes.
Isn’t this computer wonderful. To think my parents spent so much money for me to
learn these things, and here it is for you all free for nothing.
