Yesterday we went through all the splattering rain
Whistling as we go a melody from some old refrain
Today what falls on Northern Oklahoma is heat
Summer’s 2011, only dust splashes on our bare feet.
Those of us, daughters and sons of pioneers
Go through it all, smiling with no fears.
Roses bloom and are of a hearty variety
Drought makes them only a little unsightly
Cycles come and cycles go
From blistering heat to freezing snow.
We are taught by the weather to claim residence
Whether facing down circumstances, never on the fence.
Lift our hands and arms we do
To scorching heat or cool dew.
Should we be subject to foreign soil’s trip away,
Kiss the ground upon return, here to stay.
So do what you want you of lofty mind control,
Here in Oklahoma, we’re on a roll.
