I had this lovely relative who was more like a Nanny to us. She had a droll Oklahoma twang with the remnants of her grandmother’s Kentucky Southern speech pattern. We loved to hear her talk and Mother enjoyed repeating her observations of this or that kid. Aunt Jewel had no children of her own so she made it her business to know by memory everyone’s birthday and something about them. She just had a way with kids.
Aunt Jewel took me back to my childhood when she answered one of kid’s babble with:
“Now what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?
My child stopped and looked at her with a serious expression on their face just as I must have, when I was a child? To this day my mind will go back to a discussion of some non-consequential topic, little understood , comes up with the thought, “What does that have to do with the price of tea in China.”
This is the tune she sang to us:

Now what does this have to do with the price of tea in China. Well. . .?
Let me think? I suppose, “nothing, “ except I remember her always around Thanksgiving. She was a wonderful cook and even as she aged she prepared her last Thanksgiving meal for us.
