The wheel was built to replace the locks that joined the Union and Forth & Clyde canals so that boats could navigate from Edinburgh to the Clyde. Millions were spent on re-opening the Forth & Clyde but now because of two bridges that have some engineering problems the Forth & Clyde is basically closed again to East - West traffic. NO plans in place to 'fix' it is has been a complete waste of public money. BTW the chief executive of the responsible body has a salary of about GBP 168,000...Comment
