I've been adding a few pdf books to the site recently that in many ways are likely not going to be best sellers. However I'm always looking to fill gaps in our knowledge so when I discover a publication where the subject is either not covered on the site or at best only gets a brief mention I am keen to fill that gap by making the publication available.
One such subject is the coinage of Scotland...
Records of the Coinage of Scotland
From the Earliest Period to the Union collected by R. W. Cochran-Patrick of Woodside in 2 volumes (1925)
http://www.electricscotland.com/books/pdf/coinage.htm
Another such publication is...
The Records of a Scottish Cloth Manufactory at New Mills 1681-1703
Edited from the Original Manuscripts, with Introduction and Notes, by W. R. 5COTT, M.A., D.Phil., Litt.D. (1905) (pdf). Added a link to this book at the foot of our page for the Scottish Records Society at http://www.electricscotland.com/history/records/
Like other publications on the site while the overall topic might not be of interest there are actually many wee gems that can be discovered in a book such as this. Unless you are doing some serious research on this topic it's more a book to scan through to find these wee gems as there is contained within this book comments on the social life of Scotland.
I think if I had the time I'd like to work through books like this to lift the wee gems that can be found and then publish them as a separate article.
Old Scottish Clockmakers from 1453 to 1850
Added a link to this book at the foot of our Trades of Scotland page at http://www.electricscotland.com/hist...ish_trades.htm
Again this is a useful book and especially if you have an old grandfather clock as it can help you lean something of its creator. As it happens I have such a clock which was made in 1851.
History of Scottish Seals
By Walter de Gray Birch, LLD., F.S.A., Late of the British Museum (1905). Added this two volume set to the foot of our Council page at http://www.electricscotland.com/council/
As you know I've been following along with Gary who is doing major research on the Great Seals of the USA. I had a sudden thought that I had nothing about the seals of Scotland on the site and so did my research and found this publication. The thing is that Gary has discovered Scottish sources created the Great Seals of the USA and so this publication can help on this type of research.
All of the above books were discovered due to me reading other books which mentioned them in footnotes and I am in the habit of looking to see if they are available on the Internet Archive and if so I download them to see what they are like. If I then feel they are a positive resource for researchers into Scottish history I will then place a link to download them.
I've always said that if you are looking for information on a topic and can't find it on Electric Scotland then email me or get in touch and I can research it for you and if found will add that information to the site.
