  • Gavin Maxwell books overall....

Once more, I have read a large series of books by Gavin Maxwell over the years, starting with RING OF BRIGHT WATER, (even purchased the video!!), and still have many yet to read. I'd like to hear from anyone else who have read some of them....or all. On the other hand, I even have a copy of the biography of Gavin Maxwell, written by Douglas Botting. Enjoyed that as well. Although methinks Gavin was not always a happy camper. He had several failures in many things, including a fire that destroyed his initial cottage, with otter pens, etc. Joan

Expanded View of Gavin Maxwell books!

On previous post, I skimmed over his books, as was sitting at the computer, & just taking thoughts out of my head. However, here's a listing of some books GM wrote:
Harpoon Venture..(about his attempt to introduce an industry in Scotland)
Ring of Bright Water (about settling in/around Malaig in Scotland)
Raven Seek Thy Brother (a second book re: the above,i.e. otters, etc.)
The House of Elrig (an autobiography of his childhood)
The People of the Reeds (his acct of accompanying famous naturalist? into I believe Iran/Iraq in boats, introduction into his interest in otters.)
These other two are ones written by others about Gavin:
Maxwell's Ghost, an Epilogue to Gavin Maxwell's Camusfearna by Richard Frere
And lastly The Saga of Ring of Bright Water, The Enigma of Gavin Maxwell
The Authorised Biography by Douglas Botting

Hope some of our community will be interested enough to look these books up & read them!!! I know that I've certainly enjoyed the books more so than the video. Thanks for listening/reading! Joan
