This is awesome...and the "drink of choice" in our house every Christmas.
I use a wide-mouth glass gallon jar. And I blend the sugar and brandy before pouring it in...it'll dissolve MUCH better.
4 qts Berries (or whatever you choose) chopped. (Which makes it MUCH easier for straining at the end)
4 C Sugar
Brandy to cover.
Let sit 6 months (give or take) and strain, let settle and siphon. The more you siphon..the clearer it gets. I've done apple and spiced it with cinammon. (one of the best) I've done wild spearmint and it was horrid. :laugh2: If I have several flavors going, I'll throw all the leftovers from siphoning into one batch and let settle and siphon that. That can produce a very interesting and/or a very yummy cordial.
It's a fun recipe to play with. No reason to not use whatever type of liquor you prefer, as well!
