  • Dig For Victory

I was almost in 'two minds' about this topic ......gardening or history??? ..however history won the day and if you care to follow all the instructions you may even be able to "grow your own"

During the Second World War, getting the most from your little plot of land was crucial. This film, produced by the Ministry of Agriculture in 1941, explains how to prepare an area of ground for growing your veg, and shows why not having space is simply no excuse.

During WWII when at school in Grantown-on-Spey, I with others started our own plot within the school grounds. I seem to recall potato's, but not sure if they were our own home grown!! lol

Also in the early 1940s, my brother and I had a holiday at St Abbs, and in the surrounding fields there were Land Army girls. The first that we had seen in uniform.
