  • Merlin vs Father Christmas; a Christmas Tale 2010

Pendragon and Merlin are both titles, Pendragon meaning Head Dragon of the Island, King of Kings and Guardian of the Celtic Island. Merlin meant Seer to the King. Merlin’s real name was Emrys of Powys, the son of Aurelius. The Merlin was also an elder cousin to King Aedan.
Merlin was a Celt Priest and Vivien del Acqs, the grandmother of Arthur was the Queen of Avalon and High Priestess of the Ancient Celtic Religion. Arthur was supposed to unite the two religions but his conscience to be loyal to ONE religion swayed him to make Christianity the dominating religion of Britain.

Merlin was very real in the History of Briton and an advisor to King Arthur so why does modern Christianity show artwork of Merlin who resembles Father Christmas so closely?* We must not get Father Christmas confused with Santa Claus.

    Merlin
Merlin's characteristics are magical and authoritativeness. His purpose to Scotland was greater than most historians have mentioned.

There were Yule ridings in York (banned in 1572 for unruliness), where a man impersonating Yule carried cakes and meat through the street.* In Tudor and Stuart times, ‘Lords of Misrule’ called ‘Captain Christmas’, ‘The Christmas Lord’, or ‘Prince Christmas’ organized and* presided over the season’s* feasting and entertainment in aristocratic houses, colleges, and Inns of Court.* A personified ‘Christmas’ appears in Ben Jonson’s court entertainment*Christmas his Masque(1616), together with his sons: Misrule, Carol, Mince Pie, Gambol, Post-and-Pan, New Years Gift, Mumming, Wassail, and Baby Cake.* He protests against an attempt to exclude him:
    *
Why, gentlemen, do you know what you do?* Ha!* Would you keep me out?* Christmas, old Christmas, Christmas of London, and Captain Christmas?...* Why, I am no dangerous person…* I am Old Gregory Christmas still, and though I am come from Pope’s Head Alley, as good a* Protestant as any in my parish.

    Part II

    Verses by Taliesin:

I will address my prayer to God that he would deliver our community.
O thou Proprietor of heaven and earth,, to whom great wisdom is attributed.
A holy sanctuary there is on the surface of the ocean,
And at the time when the sea rises wth expanded energy,
May its chief be joyful in the splendid festival.
Frequently does the surge assail the Bard over their vessels of mead,
And on the day the billows are excited, may the enclosure skim away.
Through the billows home beyond the green spot from the region of the Picts:
And then, O God may I be for the sake of my prayer,
though I preserve my institute, in covenant with thee.

translated by Rev Edward Davies, mis-translation of green spot, should be Glas-gow.

This is Merlin's promise to his home land.

    The Winter Festival became Christmas!

How can there be such a resemblance between the two mythical figures? The story of Merlin has lived for 1500 years. He was practising Celtic Christianity. Merlin had been raised from the age of 12 to be a Priest of the great Pendragon Kings or Dalraidia Scotland.

Let's compare the style of dress between the two characters. Both wear long bellowing robes, long beards, long hair and both carry a staff. The manner of dress is very similar to the time of Aaron and the Jesuit Priests. Moses was given strict orders by the Holiest of Holy's how a Priest should dress.

Coming now to the robes of Israel’s high priest we would call attention once more to the order of Jehovah’s instructions to Moses. In Exodus 29 we have an account of the consecration of Aaron and his sons to their holy office. But before this is given, in Exodus 28, a description is furnished of the various garments they were to wear. First, the vestments of the high priest are detailed, and then those of Aaron’s sons. The anointed eye may easily discern the propriety of and the reason for this. Typically, the garments foreshadowed the manifold glories of Christ, the great High Priest, which glories and perfections manifested His fitness for that office. The holy garments of Aaron were "for glory and beauty": they gave dignity to his person, being suitable apparel for his position. In figure they pointed to Christ in all His perfections with the Father before He was "consecrated" to His work for us.
<span>"And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty" (v. 2). With this should be compared Leviticus 16:4, "He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments." There were two sets of clothing provided for Israel’s high priest: the one mentioned in Leviticus 16 was what he wore on the annual Day of Atonement. Then he was robed only in spotless white, foreshadowing the personal righteousness and holiness of the Lord Jesus, which fitted Him to undertake the stupendous work of putting away the sins of His people.</span>
The dress of Merlin, all the ancient Celtic Priests, the Roman Catholic Priests and Father Christmas abide by the same basic rules of dress for the Priesthood from the time of Moses.

It is simply amazing how history ties itself together many generations later. We still have what is known as the 'Spirit of Christmas'. The spirit of Christmas goes back to the ancient time of Aaron and the responsibility of the priest to the people.

A young child sees an older gent with a long white beard, the first thing they ask is, "are you Santa Claus?" We all know Santa Claus is just a grandeur for commercialism in today's world. The basic concept is still there. The heavy red long coat, the long white beard and the idea of giving.

Another important factor I have realised in writing this Christmas 2010 short story; Aaron, Merlin, Father Christmas and Santa Claus all have a deer of some form represented with them in all the graphics!

Wishing all a very Happy Christmas, a Great Holiday and a Blessed New Year!
