I was crushed to day by a dude telling me all the tartans are fake some one tell me this isn't so i would hope that my family's tartan was real and that is what makes u stand out among Scots any information on this?

The next time you are on the forums use either the 'Escotland' link above the thread windws or the blue bar at the bottom of the screen. There is a lot of information to be found on Electric Scotland regarding tartans. I am not educated on the matter, but I suspect that the argument that all tartans are ancient would be as dubious as the argument the the individual you wrote of who stated that tartans are fake. There are new tartans being designed and registered daily, but there were woven cloth being made in the iron age that would look like tartan. Perhaps the notion that clan or district tartans are relatively recent has some merit, but someone stating that they are all 'fake' would be wrong. I hope this helps. -
