Euan, barmy weather is what to expect. Rather than the balmy weather to which you are accustomed:cool:

          Euan,
we have had +10 over the last couple of days but with cloud and drizzle. Today is bright and sunny with -1. I'll take that, it was lovely walking with the dog. I do NOT expect those temps at the end of May, but "who knows". As I said before - Water of Life will keep you warm. There's a bottle going up for auction soon that is expected to reach £25,000 - should I submit your bid now?:sly:

Sandy, Euan should be perfectly cared for with an 18 year old Glenfiddich.

Sandy, as Miolchu suggests, the 18yo fiddich would do nicely..I couldn't imagine paying 25,000 pounds for a bottle of whisky and would'nt part with that much money for a bottle of anything...

                Re: Still here.

Now to get back on the subject....we have decided to spend one night in Fort William on our way from Inverness to Glasgow. We wanted to visit the Isle of Skye, and felt it would be too hard to do it from Inverness and get to Glasgow as well for our last night before we head to Dublin. So we need to find a hotel or B&B around Fort William, if anyone has a suggestion on a nice place to stay it would be appreciated. Our travel agent is having trouble finding a place they can book for us.

                  Re: Still here.

                  Hi Euan,
I think that you are having problems booking because your Inverness / Ft. Willam dates run into a holiday weekend.
Are you planning to take the bridge to Skye or the ferry? I suspect that the ferries may well be booked as well.
So the bridge could be the only real alternative. That would then suggest that you don't go as far as Ft. William but cut off at Invermoriston for the road to Kyle of Lochalsh. The drive from Inverness onto Skye could mean looking for somewhere on Skye for the night. The trip back may be better by ferry to Mallaig and may be quieter in that direction. CalMac ferries have a site http://www.calmac.co.uk/ that could help. You can drive from Mallaig to Glasgow in one day easily (I usually make the round trip around that weekend, but do not cross to/from Skye).

The current owner bought it for £10,000 about 18 months ago...

                      Re: Still here.

Hi Sandy, we will have a car so will use the bridge. After having a close look at the map we have you may well be correct! What we will now try and do is make a quick trip to Skye either whilst we are staying in Inverness or duck over on our way to Fort William. We would rather spend what time we have around Fort William than Skye, so we will just see what happens. Today we managed to book a one night stay at the Distillery Guest House in Fort William, it looks ok, but experience tells us you don't take much notice of the photo's on the net (or the reviews). I'm wondering if you or anyone else knows this place and if it's ok? We can cancel the booking without penalty up till the 4th May, however if it's a holiday weekend, we might not find anything suitable that close to when we want to stay.

                        Re: Still here.

Well, 2 months and we will be heading over to the UK..We leave on the 1st of May. Have just finalized our train tickets for Eurostar AU$250 one way for the both of us. Train tickets from London to Cardiff, then tickets from Cardiff to York via Manchester have been bought and paid for. The two transfers needed (Paris and Dublin)have been organized also. The only downside is the 10hr stopover in Dubai on the way home..Now we just have to wait....the weather over there appears to be reasonable at the moment, so i hope it keeps improving!

                          Re: Still here.

At some airports they have what they call "day beds" where you can hire a "bed" in a cubicle just for a sleep. 10 hours is a long time to hang around doing nothing.

Yep, I knew that. Clever boy Euan or experienced travel agent to have found that out. It's not generally well known.

I wish I had known that a couple of years ago when I was "stuck" in Dubai for hours. I got to sleep beside my cases because there was not automatic transfer of luggage to Afghanistan~~~
