Looks like I am "blessed" to be the first one to answer! Okay, here goes....

#1. is "Tomatoes". #3 is "attention!" (as in military). #8 is "books overdue". #12 is "a hole in one". #9. is "mini-skirts"

I'll try a few more to make the long weekend interesting: #5 - Absentee, #7 - Ace in the Hole and #10 - Dead End. I'm tempted to try "Greenie" for #4, but am not sure the colour is green or that the term for "environmentalist" is commonly used elsewhere.

Rick, your answers for #5, #7 and #10 are correct but #4 is not about the environment but it is about a shade of green.

I've just been perusing the clues again...is #4 "Limey" ???? And an alternate answer for #3 is "tension"???

PS: I'm a "middle child" between two brothers, & tend to be competitive because of that!
