    Re: Enigma Machine 9

I had never heard of a 'square knot', but I find (from the following link) that it can also be called a 'reef Knot' !

I do not see why 'square' is used, as it is always oblong..... but then, I have never been a Girl Guide !!!

      Re: Enigma Machine 9

HI, Ranald, All I know is that one has two ends of rope, then you put right over left, then left over right, which kind of makes a square. In Boy Scouting & in Girl Scouting a square knot is meaningful. We tie our ties with it. And a square knot will not let go, no matter what! Joan PS: could show you, as it's difficult to show on-line!!??!!

The Scouts and Guides are right on, you got it Joan! That finishes EM9. Anyway the knot pictured is square.

        Cheers,

        Hugh

Like Ranald, I hadn't heard of a square knot; it's known here as a reef knot also. (Unless you tie it wrong, in which case it's a "Granny"!
